Travel
If you want to know if you are the prettiest, the strongest, the smartest; travel! Through a wide-eyed view of experiences and interactions, you may see how small you actually are.
I recently had the experience of leaving my comfort zone and traveling outside of my home town. Traveling over 1500 miles, it was nice to get away from the ice and the freezing cold and into the warmth and shining sun, where I believe I saw avocado growing from a tree. Before that day, I did not realize, nor did I ever think about avocado growing from trees.
And traveling more distance, but on water to various places – some, I never heard of. It was such a reality check to see outside of my realm. Different people, different languages, different norms. Evening ordering food outside of America is interesting. Some of it – very tasty, and some of it – not to my liking. I had a beef bbq taco with braised beef, avocado and served with bbq sauce. Interestingly, it was decent. I also had a daiquiri-like drink, but for some reason, it was missing that sugar that many Americans crave.
Everyone was so nice. I was not able to understand the various languages, but I did understand their various gestures, their kind eyes and wide smiles.
Very interestingly, before our trip we purchased the ear translators. It didn’t take us long to figure out they need wifi to work. Nevertheless, it should be a requirement that every person is able to experience the new, the unheard of and the forgotten.
