Talk to me
I have a child who is such a nonchalant individual. It is hard to have a continuous conversation with him. The most he asks is, “Where are we going?” and “When are we going home?”
When I was a child, I neglected to speak with my parents about things that were important to me. I too, said the minimal needed to get by. I saved my conversation for my schoolmates and those I called my friends. I read encyclopedias to answer my questions. I gathered additional information from television shows and radio. If I did not have to speak, I chose not to.
Though my thoughts are now shared more with family and less with friends; it is interesting how tables turn. I will speak with anyone who understands me and reciprocates my smile. At the same time, I will talk forever about nothing and speak immensely about everything. We all have that desire to be heard, to feel needed and be appreciated.
